The Hon. Mr. Justice Ward Branch was appointed to the British Columbia Supreme Court in 2017. While at the bar, his practice focused on class actions and insurance. He continues to be the author of the textbook Class Actions in Canada (Thomson Reuters), which has been cited with approval by the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as other courts. He was named Canada’s Class Action Litigator of the Year for 2014 and 2015 at the Benchmark Canada Awards.  He was included in The Best Lawyers in Canada guide as one of the country's top "Bet the Company", insurance, and class action litigators.  He was listed in Lexpert as a leading cross-border litigation counsel. He was counsel in the first class action cases to come before the B.C. Supreme Court and B.C. Court of Appeal. He was retained in over one hundred and fifty class actions in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, Alberta and B.C. This included acting for the class in the veterans pension case Manuge v. Canada, which recovered over $800 million for injured veterans. While at the bar he acted for both plaintiffs and defendants.
