About the Author
Alan Mewett, Q.C., was a respected scholar and professor in the area of criminal law, criminal procedure and evidence. He was editor of the Criminal Law Quarterly for more than 30 years and was the director of the Ontario Law Reform Commission's Evidence Project from 1970 to 1975. He continued to teach classes in evidence even following his retirement as a Professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto in 1997, where he had been teaching for nearly 30 years. He previously held positions at Saskatchewan, Queen's and Osgoode Hall Law School. Alan Mewett received the W.P.M. Kennedy Award upon his retirement. He passed away in 2001.
Peter Sankoff, B.A, J.D., LL.M., is a Professor at the University of Alberta, Faculty of Law, who teaches in the areas of criminal law, evidence and animal law. He previously worked as a law clerk for Madame Justice Claire L'Heureux-Dubé at the Supreme Court of Canada and for the Canadian federal government as an advisor on human rights matters involving criminal justice. In addition to his Canadian experience, he has taught law courses in Australia, New Zealand, Israel, and the United States.

Mr. Sankoff is the co-author of Witnesses, also published by Carswell, and author of numerous books and articles.
