Jamie Knight, LL.B., practises labour and employment law as a partner with Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti LLP in the firm’s Hamilton and Toronto offices. Jamie has thirty-five years of experience working with his clients to improve the effectiveness of their human resources relationships. Jamie represents employers in all aspects of dealing with their unionized and non-unionized employees. Jamie’s practice features wrongful dismissal, human rights, health and safety, privacy, labour board hearings, collective bargaining and labour arbitrations. Jamie is an author/co-author of some twenty publications — almost all in multiple editions. He is a teacher, frequent speaker, and pro-active advocate for workplaces that work.

Jamie has been on the Board of the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers (CACE) since 2008, President in 2017 and Past President in 2018. In 2017, Jamie was named the Canadian HR Reporter 2017 Employment Lawyer of the Year, as selected by Canadian Lawyer Magazine. In addition to a Band 1 ranking in Chambers Global and Chambers Canada, Jamie has maintained a high ranking for many years in other respected sources in both categories of employment and labour law. In 2018, Jamie was elected as a Fellow of the U.S.-based College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.

Brian P. MacDonald, LL.B., is a partner with the firm practising in all areas of labour and employment law. Brian received an Honours B.A. in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario in 2006 and received his LL.B. from Dalhousie University in 2009. Brian articled at the firm before joining as an associate upon his call to the bar in 2010. Brian is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association. Brian has extensive experience in labour and employment matters, and appears regularly before the Ontario Labour Relations Board on a wide variety of issues.

Diane Laranja, J.D., is an associate with Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti LLP practicing in all areas of labour and employment law. Diane received a Juris Doctor in Law from the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law in 2012, and was called to the bar in Ontario in 2013. Diane also holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Ryerson University, where she majored in Management with a minor in Human Resources Management. Diane has authored or co-authored several papers on various labour and employment topics. In her practice, Diane regularly advises employers on workplace human resource issues, with a particular emphasis on grievance arbitrations, construction labour relations, occupational health and safety, employee issues, and management training. Diane is also a Board Member of the Ontario Electrical League.
