Joy Overtveld, LL.B. acted for landlords in her own private practice which was restricted to residential tenancies law, for over a decade. As a landlord's daughter, she also had hands-on experience in the industry prior to becoming a lawyer. Her efforts to organize the landlord community in an annual city-wide food drive which continues to collect over 100,000 pounds of food annually for the poor, won her the Gordon F. Henderson award for outstanding community service in 2004. Ms. Overtveld taught the landlord-tenant portion of the Bar Admission course to incoming lawyers in Eastern Ontario, has written articles for various landlord professional organizations and has chaired a number of CLE events on landlord and tenant law for the FRPO, ORLA, CCLA and the OBA. She is currently taking a break from private practice and pursuing her R.P.A. (Real Property Administrator) designation through the Building Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI) to improve her understanding of current business practices within the industry.
