About the Author
Jeffrey Sack,Q.C.practises in the area of labour law and civil litigation, acting for unions, professional associations before the courts, boards and other administrative tribunals. He has special expertise in interest arbitration, and in the university, health care, fire and police sectors. Mr. Sack has written extensively on interest arbitration issues, the Charter and labour law, and international labour law. He is the founding President of the Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers and Co-chair of its International Affairs Committee. Mr. Sack is a member of the Executive Committee of the International Society of Labour Law and Social Security, Co-director of the Canadian Labour Law Association and Past President of the International Association of Labour Law Journals. He has also received the Gerard Dion Award for contributions to Canadian industrial relations and the LERA Award as outstanding labour relations practitioner in 2008.
The Honourable Warren K. Winkler, Q.C., B.A., LL.M., LL.D. (Hon.) was appointed Chief Justice of Ontario in June 2007, following 14 years as a trial judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, where he held a range of judicial administration portfolios. He judicially mediated many large national and international disputes, including: Air Canada Restructuring; Walkerton Tainted Water; Ontario Hydro and Power Workers; Windsor-Michigan Tunnel. He has heard major class action proceedings involving: Hepatitis C; Breast Implants; Tobacco; Walkerton Tainted Water; Mad Cow Disease, and Native Residential Schools. As Regional Senior Justice for the Toronto Region (2004-2007), he was the catalyst for a forward-thinking Practice Direction and Rule reform that was to profoundly improve access to fair, timely and affordable Civil Litigation for the users of the civil justice system in Toronto.

Prior to his appointment as a judge, his Honour practised law at Montgomery, Cassels, Somers, Dutton and was a founding partner of Winkler, Filion and Wakely in Toronto. Chief Justice Winkler is the co-founding editor of The Labour Law Journal, consulting editor of Labour Arbitration Cases (Canada Law Book) co-author of Willis & Winkler on Leading Labour Cases 2010 (Canada Law Book) and editor of O'Brien's Encyclopedia of Forms - Labour Relations and Employment, Division VII (Canada Law Book).
The Honourable Warren K. Winkler retired as Chief Justice of Ontario in December 2013.
