About the Author

Jamie Knight, LL.B., practises labour and employment law as a partner with Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti LLP in the firm’s Hamilton and Toronto offices. Jamie has thirty-five years of experience working with his clients to improve the effectiveness of their human resources relationships. Jamie represents employers in all aspects of dealing with their unionized and non-unionized employees. Jamie’s practice features wrongful dismissal, human rights, health and safety, privacy, labour board hearings, collective bargaining and labour arbitrations. Jamie is an author/co-author of some twenty publications — almost all in multiple editions. He is a teacher, frequent speaker, and pro-active advocate for workplaces that work.

Jamie has been on the Board of the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers (CACE) since 2008, President in 2017 and Past President in 2018. In 2017, Jamie was named the Canadian HR Reporter 2017 Employment Lawyer of the Year, as selected by Canadian Lawyer Magazine. In addition to a Band 1 ranking in Chambers Global and Chambers Canada, Jamie has maintained a high ranking for many years in other respected sources in both categories of employment and labour law. In 2018, Jamie was elected as a Fellow of the U.S.-based College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.
 

Melanie McNaught, LL.B., is a partner with Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti LLP, practising in all areas of labour and employment law. Melanie earned a Bachelor of Journalism from Carleton University in 1999, and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Victoria in 2002. Melanie articled at the Ontario Court of Appeal before joining the firm as an associate.

Giovanna Di Sauro, J.D., is an Associate in the Toronto office of Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti LLP, practising in all areas of labour and employment law. Prior to attending law school, Giovanna received a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in molecular biology and biochemistry from Simon Fraser University. Giovanna received her Juris Doctor in 2014 from the Faculty of Law at Queen’s University. While at Queen’s, Giovanna was one of the recipients of the 2013-14 Denis Marshall Contribution Award. Giovanna also served as research assistant for the Centre for Law in the Contemporary Workplace, and as Senior Student Editor for the Canadian Labour & Employment Law Journal.

Evan J. Daikov, J.D., is an Associate in the Toronto office of Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti LLP, practising in all areas of labour and employment law. Prior to attending law school, Evan received a Master of Arts in English from Queen’s University, and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours, with High Distinction) in English and Philosophy from the University of Toronto. Evan received his Juris Doctor in 2015 from the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto. While at UofT, Evan was a recipient of the McMillan LLP Scholarship. Evan also volunteered with Downtown Legal Services, a community legal clinic, and worked for Law in Action within Schools, a legal education program.
