This work, presented in two volumes, one in English, the other in French is the result of dialogue by a team of experienced scholars on civil law and common law in the Canadian context. The work includes chapters on property, trusts, contracts, civil liability, and private international law. Each chapter, in addition to setting out the rules applicable to the field under study, analyses, compares, and critiques major points of similarity or divergence between the two legal systems.
The English-language volume on Quebec civil law is primarily intended for English-speaking Canadian jurists with a common law background while the French-language volume on the common law is specifically intended to meet the needs of legal professionals with a civil law background, mostly in Quebec.
