About the Author

Alexander M. Gay, B.A. (Hons.), M.A., LL.B., LL.L., is a General Counsel at the Department of Justice. He maintains a broad civil litigation practice, with an emphasis on commercial and trade disputes. Mr. Gay has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario as well as the Supreme Court of Canada. He has represented clients before regulatory tribunals and boards, including the National Energy Board, the Ontario Energy Board, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, the Alberta Securities Commission, the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board and the Competition Tribunal. Mr. Gay is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Law Society of British Columbia and the Law Society of Upper Canada.

Master Alexandre Kaufman, B.A., LL.B., recently appointed Case Management Master to the Superior Court of Justice is an experienced legal practitioner. Most recently, Master Kaufman acted as senior counsel in civil litigation at the federal Department of Justice. Mr. Kaufman has been a trial lawyer representing the Crown before the Ontario Court of Justice, the Superior Court, the Divisional Court, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, the Federal Courts, as well as a wide range of tribunals and boards. Mr. Kaufman had a broad litigation practice that included administrative law, procurement and trade remedies, employment, contract and tort claims and criminal law. He also taught at the University of Ottawa and Algonquin College.
