The Study-Guide to Alberta's Occupational Health & Safety Act, Regulation and Code 2019 Edition has been designed to be used with the HANDI-GUIDE to Alberta's OH&S Act, Regulation and Code, 2019 Edition. This publication enables all employees to understand their duties and responsibilities under the Alberta OHS Act, Regulation, and Code and is also a great resource for health and safety committees to discuss and understand compliance-related issues. Every order comes with one Answer Key booklet at no additional charge.

The following changes were made to the accompanying 2019 edition of the Alberta HANDI-GUIDE:

  • Discussion of the OH&S Branches 2019-2022
  • OH&S Regulatory Review Plan and anticipated changes to some parts of the OH&S Code
  • An amendment to Part 18 (Personal Protective Equipment) of the OH&S Code on January 1, 2019, to prohibit employers from requiring workers to use footwear (e.g., high heels) that may pose a risk to their health and safety
  • Information Bulletin LI050, providing additional guidance about considering footwear-related hazards as part of a workplace hazard assessment
  • A detailed update on technical requirements added to the OH&S Code in December 2018 that apply to farms/ ranches, including some exemptions and alternative compliance methods
  • Discussion of a fresh review of farm safety/ workplace legislation over the summer of 2019 and potential changes that could be brought forward
  • Updates on a range of compliance and enforcement topics, such as orders (compliance orders, stop work, and stop use orders), inspections, and investigations by OH&S officers
  • Discussion of updating workplace impairment policies, in relation to the legalization of recreational cannabis in late 2018
  • Review of training requirements for health and safety committee members and health and safety representatives
  • Review of the OH&S legislative framework in Alberta, including significant modernization and changes to the OH&S Act, Regulation and Code that came into force in mid-2018, such as the requirements relating to written OH&S programs, joint work site health, and safety committees, provisions on the reporting of serious incidents and potentially serious incidents, the right to refuse dangerous work and a prohibition on discriminatory action, the requirement to develop violence and harassment prevention plans, requirements to provide workers with readily available OH&S information, and an employer's duty to provide a written report on steps taken to comply with an order
