About the Author
Mr. Justice Geoffrey B. Morawetz was appointed to the bench of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario in 2005. Prior to his appointment, he was a partner with the firm Goodmans LLP, practising primarily in the areas of corporate restructuring, insolvency litigation and secured transactions. He is a member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada and is a past Chair of the Insolvency Section of the Ontario Bar Association. He is a frequent lecturer and is the author of several legal publications.
Kelly Bourassa is a partner who practises in the areas of restructuring & insolvency law at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP. She is an experienced insolvency lawyer whose practice focuses on all aspects of commercial reorganizations, work-outs, receiverships and other enforcement of security. She has represented many different parties affected by the insolvency process in both domestic and cross-border cases, including lending syndicates, other secured and unsecured creditors, debtors, purchasers, receivers, monitors and trustees. Kelly has authored and co-authored articles and papers on various insolvency-related topics for continuing legal education programs, conferences and seminars with a particular interest in derivatives and eligible financial contracts.
Philippe Bélanger is a partner at McCarthy Tétrault LLP. His practise focuses on bankruptcy and restructuring as well as commercial litigation. Frequently represents secured lenders and borrowers in major restructurings and insolvencies. Retained by the Canadian government to review and comment on legislative amendments to the Canadian insolvency regime and has appeared before Senate and House of Commons committees on behalf of the Insolvency Institute of Canada. Lecturer on advanced security law and advanced bankruptcy and restructuring law at the Faculty of Law, Université de Montréal. Has given numerous conferences and published texts in the field of insolvency and creditors' rights on the topics of Crown rights and recourses, collective agreements, and bankruptcy and lender environmental liability. Clerked with Chief Justice Antonio Lamer at the Supreme Court of Canada in 1989 and 1990.
